How to Apply

Applying for an Omid Scholarship

Stage 1: Submit an application to the University of Cambridge through the University’s standard applications procedures (see more on this below). You do not need to submit any documents or applications directly to the Omid Trust.

Stage 2: If you are offered a place by the University of Cambridge, then your application will be forwarded to the Omid Trust and its co-funding partners. We may contact you for an interview or more information. This will usually be the first time that you will have had any direct contact with the Omid Trust about your application. Alternatively, the Omid Trust and its partners may decide that it has enough information to make a decision about the Scholarship without conducting interviews.

Stage 3: If you are successful, The Omid Trust will write to inform you between late April and early July.

The University Application Procedure

In order to apply to the University of Cambridge through the standard applications procedures, you should

–  complete section B of the GRADSAF form (University Application Form for Graduate Students). All details about how to apply to the University can be found by clicking here.

–  state clearly in your personal statement why you should become an Omid scholar, in particular discussing your ambitions, motivations, academic excellence and financial need.

–  select St Edmund’s College as your first choice college in the “college membership” section (if you wish to apply to another College, you must write to the Omid Trust in advance, explaining your reasons, so that a member of our team can consider this request).

Key Deadlines

There are two different deadlines of which you need to be aware: (1) the deadline to apply for your Masters course, and (2) the deadline to apply for an Omid Cambridge Scholarship. These deadlines may be different.

The deadline to apply for your Masters course will depend on your chosen course of study. Applicants must usually submit their application by December or January. However, a more precise date will be available on the University of Cambridge’s graduate admissions website for each graduate course.

The deadline to apply for an Omid Cambridge Scholarship is the same as the deadline to apply for a Cambridge Trust Scholarship. This deadline changes each year, and can be found on the Cambridge Trust’s website (follow this link). The deadline to apply for an Omid Cambridge Scholarship could be before the deadline to apply for your Masters course. This means that, even if your application meets the deadline set by your Masters course, your application may be too late to be considered by the Omid Trust. Please apply early to avoid disappointment.

Application Fee

Most students applying for graduate degrees at the University of Cambridge need to pay an application fee. However, applicants who are nationals of Iran, and have lived in Iran since birth will have their application fee waived automatically on submission of the application for their chosen Masters degree. For more information on the application waiver programme, click on this link.
